Piano six-hands at the Duet Concert of IUPA 2008
Summer Festivals are among the greatest joys in the year of any musician. To leave one's regular schedule and travel to a beautiful place, to sink gratefully into new and old music, to work feverishly with inspiring artists and to teach eager students, to play sunlit outdoor concerts into the late evening...if only one could spend all year doing the same!
1. Indiana University Bloomington.
Since the summer of 1999, Dr. McDonagh has taught every year at the Indiana University Piano Academy in Bloomington, Indiana. The brainchild of Dr. Karen Taylor, IUPA has become one of the top summer Pre-college Piano Institutes in the USA over the last 29 years. Following a competitive application process, approximately 55-65 students travel from all over the world to take lessons, masterclasses, duet classes, theory classes, Feldenkrais, seminars and more. A hugely intensive three weeks of piano in Bloomington, it is a phenomenal experience for any serious piano student or budding professional musician!
2. Summer Piano Master Courses, Duszniki, Poland: 16 - 28 July, 2014.
During the summer of 2014, Dr. McDonagh was on the faculty of the Duszniki Summer Piano Masterclasses in Poland. Duszniki is home to the famous Chopin Piano Festival every year, initiated originally because Chopin spent summers in the town as a teenager. The Piano Masterclasses cater to Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral pianists from all over the world. Situated in the beautiful spa town of Duszniki, located just 15 km from the border with the Czech Republic, it is a stunning place to become immersed in some incredible music-making!
